John Carver ‘The Stats Don’t Lie’

After the Everton defeat, John Carver was asked whether he was concerned with the problem of scoring goals when Loic Remy was missing.

As always, Carver was admirably up front and stated that of course there was a problem as the stats show but that it was everybody’s responsibility to score goals – not just the strikers;

“This is becoming a familiar question isn’t it.

“Let’s be honest, stats don’t lie and you can see that yourself when you look at how many goals the rest of the team have got.

“Everybody has to chip in though, it is not just about putting pressure on Loic and Papiss; Moussa has to chip in, Gouff has to chip in, Cheicky has to chip in, Vurn even – and he almost did, the centre-backs need to get a goal from somewhere.

“It is everybody trying to contribute and get us to win the game.”

In fact Carver’s words echoed what Alan Pardew said two summers ago when he said Newcastle had to add goals from all over the pitch and this was the time when he stated in an interview that amongst a number of players he would bring in, he had a commanding centre-back lined up who would also return a healthy goals total.

Of course that transfer didn’t happen and we are still desperately looking for any kind of ability to score goals apart from the obvious.
