Hatem Ben Arfa Misses Newcastle v Anzhi

At today’s press conference in advance of the match against Anzhi at St.James’ Park, Alan Pardew has confirmed that Hatem Ben Arfa will once again be missing.

While there has been talk of a dead leg being the problem after Ben Arfa’s surprise start in Moscow, the manager has confirmed that Hatem is still to fully recover from his hamstring problem.

There will be supporters who question whether Ben Arfa should have played on that artificial pitch.

When the Frenchman didn’t even make the bench on Sunday against Stoke, many fans were hoping it was to make sure he was fully tuned up for the second leg and of course give him time to fully recover from the away leg.

Even as a sub Hatem would have been a real asset to have waiting to come off the bench against Anzhi, as it stands now though we must just hope that Ben Arfa can fully shake the problem off and come back strong in the coming weeks, including the quarter-final…

Alan Pardew also said that Hatem could be OK as early as Wigan on Sunday but that will largely depend on what a specialist has to say in the next couple of days.

Great odds available for the Anzhi match this Thursday, especially if you aren’t already a customer of BetVictor and take advantage of their special offer of a £25 free matched bet.
