England Beat Germany With Help Of Newcastle United Rising Star
It was great to see England beat Germany on Wednesday night, the Under 18s fighting back after going a goal down to the visitors.
Newcastle United rising star Alex Gilliead was in the starting line up as England faced their German counterparts at Rotherham’s ‘New York Stadium’ (the stadium getting its name as local company, Guest and Chrimes Foundry, manufactured the distinctive fire hydrants that are dotted around the American city – not a lot of people know that).
Despite being the better side in the first half, England fell behind to a rare chance for the visitors, Patrick Pflucke putting Germany ahead.
England fought back in the second half and on 65 minutes Dean Rittenberg put the home side back on level terms.
A minute later United’s Gilliead was subbed and it was his replacement, Harry Winks, who ended up getting the winner in the 82nd minute.
Always good to see England beating the old enemy and even better to see one of our own in the heart of the action, a decent crowd of 9,119 seeing England’s victory.
