£30m Price Tag For Demba Ba

With January getting ever closer, there has been positive news on the Demba Ba transfer clause situation.

Despite the much talked about £7.5m buyout clause in his contract, the true overall commitment for any club would be around the £30m mark, plus other considerations.

As well as the £7.5m transfer fee, it is believed Ba’s agent(s) are seeking a £80,000 a week pay deal over four years (another £16m), plus The Independent are reporting an incredible £5m in fees to his agents. Once again it isn’t hard to see where the driving force for any deal could be.

Due to the overall price of the package it is claimed there hasn’t been one firm bid made, either last summer or in the lead up to this upcoming winter window.

It is also believed that Demba would get half (£3.75m) of the buyout fee.

An important consideration for any buying club is that while Ba’s fitness has been excellent at St.James’ Park, his long standing knee problem will have to be taken care of in terms of insurance which will be a considerable extra cost.

With each successive transfer window this issue is going to crop up and if the January one sees no change, either in terms of a transfer or a new NUFC contract agreed, then it will simply mean in the summer the player will have only one year left on his contract and be in an even stronger position in terms of bargaining power.

Despite all of the talk it is believed that Demba Ba is more than happy at Newcastle but something will have to give sometime if the player is going to be here for much longer.
