Sunderland captain says clean sheets = points then concedes EIGHT…
While Newcastle at last huffed and puffed to their first Premier League win of the season, there was a very amusing bonus supplied by Sunderland on the south coast.
Before the match the Mackems had been bragging about their defensive record, only Southampton had conceded less than our Wearside friends in the Premier League.
Sunderland Captain John O’Shea was moved to say before the match;
“The more clean sheets you can get, the more points on the board.”
Twenty four hours later it was Southampton 8 Sunderland 0, including two glorious own goals.
The Mackem South coast humiliation summed up by these two Twitter messages sent out by Sunderland, the before and after;
