Newcastle United ‘Treat French League Like a Football Lidl!’

threeFrenchMenWe have seen and reported on ever increasing coverage on Newcastle United in the French media but what does the average French football fan think about what is happening on Tyneside?

We set our trusty translator Pierre loose and after scouring the French corner of the internet, following the intense coverage given to the Villa match these are some of the things fans are saying back in Yohan Cabaye’s (and Mapou’s, Gouffran’s, Sissoko’s, Ben Arfa’s….) home country;

The French league will become like the Belgium one!’ ( the French always joke about Belgium and see their neighbouring country as inferior)

‘The English public pushes you to go beyond your limits, it’s not the French mentality and well done Cabaye!!!!!’

‘There is so little news around that L’Equipe has to use Newcastle? And never do they do a main story about Levante? After all between Luyindula, Kapo et others, there is a colony out there too!’

‘If Newcastle play with a team half made up of French players, well of course there is bound to be one of them who will make a decisive action (pass or goal), especially as they have lots of French midfielders….’

‘A cheque + English public + competition + great stadium and lovely pitches, in other words what we don’t have!!!’

‘Bravo Papiss Cisse!!!’

…and my personal favourite;

‘I hate them, they treat the French league like a football Lidl!’

    Manchester bought Wilfred Zaha for 15M, then loaned him back to Crystal Palace for the rest of the season. Debuchy, Sissoko and Mapou all fully fledged internationals for around the same price. It’s a no Brainer. If that’s the value you get for shopping at Waitrose, then it’s Lidl every time for me, I’m afraid.
