Tiote For Perch At White Hart Lane

070213135822It would appear to be pretty easy to guess Alan Pardew’s team for the match at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

While that was also true for much of this season, unhappily that was because the cupboard was bare when it came to alternatives to a number of players who were struggling.

Now however, barring any nasty surprise injuries from the international friendlies, Alan Pardew is now having to look at more positive decisions.

As well as Mapou pushing for a place, the biggest of these must be whether to change a winning team to accommodate Cheick Tiote who is back from African Cup of Nations duty.

For me this is an easy decision, whilst James Perch has done  a tidy job as a fill-in, Tiote is the real deal and to me will only thrive with the rise in quality and movement added to the team in January. The addition of players like Moussa Sissoko will hopefully lead to Tiote just concentrating on his own job rather than making up for the weaknesses of others. Speaking of Sissoko, we tipped him at 10/1 to score any time against Chelsea and playing in the advanced role that looks tailor made for him, I still think it is great value at 11/2 for Sissoko to score any time at Spurs.

As well as the new signings, the return of Taylor and Cabaye have been just as important.

Taylor has been outstanding alongside Coloccini in these last two wins, while Cabaye is playing up to somewhere near his very best, plus like Sissoko he is getting into a very good forward positions and adding goals to his performances, Cabaye 16/1 to score first catches the eye as well.

More than anything United are looking a team once again with all the players working hard for one another, epitomised by the hard running Gouffran and a back to form against Chelsea, Jonas.

The performance and fightback against Chelsea will have raised the confidence levels to a massive high, NUFC to win at 9/2 must be good value if you look at our team as it is looking now as opposed to the previous twenty or so matches.

Tiote can slot in that midfield and Tottenham will at the very least know they have been in a game against the Ivory Coast midfielder and the likes of Sissoko and Cabaye.

Let’s keep this run rolling.

What would your starting eleven be on Saturday?

NUFC To Beat Spurs 9/2
Sissoko To Score A Goal 11/2
Cabaye To Score First Goal 16/1

Come on the toon. Spurs are the better team, lets be honest, but we’ll give it a go. I’ve heard that Coloccini will shave his head if we win, anyone else seen this rumour on twitter?

Same 11 but 4-2-3-1 is the formation we seem to play, Cabaye and Tiote as the 2, Cisse as the front man obviously

dont really consider spurs’ midfield much better than the toons, infact the toons may be better, if ben arfa was playing, it would be a really good match.. think newcastle will give it really good go but i do think bale could be the key to this game

Why can’t we beat spurs? They have no Defoe, who seems to love a goal against us. I am almost certain Adebayor won’t have a good game if he plays due to form and his ACON involvement, if he doesn’t play then they don’t have a natural striker. Bale is certainly the one to look out for, we need to keep him shackled. If we sit in and don’t give them room to play/run into, then they will run out of some ideas i think. We definitely have the capability to hit them on the counter attack.

I worried about spurs more when they had harry in charge, they were and probably still are a great team when they play at a high tempo and in an open game. If we can stifle them then we can nick a goal or 2.

I would sooner see Perch in the side Tiote isn’t the player he was last season and he is as likely to get sent off as being useful.
Of course we can win at Spurs we are a much improved side to a few weeks a go, and their one striker isn’t fit.

Are you telling me if Perch was Ivorian he would be in the national side over Tiote? Perch is a great squad player and does well wherever and whenever he has to fill in, but Tiote is a step above. His bad form this season is due to his attempts to overcompensate for the weaknesses in the side; with a better team out his performances will no doubt improve.

I think if you base the decision on their respective performances this season Perch has to keep his place over Tiote. In my opinion this season Tiote has been a shadow the player he was last season, and coupled with is tendency to pick up a yellow or even red card is frankly a liability – and a risk i dont think Pardew should take, given the progress we have made in the last two games. I see where you are coming from with regards to him over-compensating for the lack of quality around him this season, but that doesn’t excuse excessive ‘dallying’ on the ball and simple passes going astray which has happened all too often this season. Last season’s Tiote walks back into the first team, this seasons doesn’t. Personally I like Anita, i think considering this is his first season in PL I think he looks very promising and i think he will be a future star. While i’m on I might as well say Jonas wouldn’t get in my starting XI, despite the praise he received in his last efforts – I suspect he still didn’t put in one decent cross all game and i would go with Marveaux provided he tracks back!

Judging by Pardew’s comments today you may get your wish though he needs to get back to last season’s form to justify ousting Perchino – and stop picking up stupid bookings. Incidentally Jackie I must have missed your tip to back Sissoko to score any time against Chelsea at 10/1. Can you point us in the direction of the article?
