Shocking St James Park statistic shows failure in style and to invest

Mike Ashley’s lack of investment in the team and Alan Pardew’s lack of investment in playing style, is summed up by one shocking statistic at St James Park.

In a year of matches at St James Park, Newcastle United have beaten the opposition by more than one goal how many times?

Once.

Yes, that’s right, in a whole year of football, Pardew’s team and tactics have once let us sit back and enjoy the last few minutes without any worries.

If you’re wondering who this opponent is – it was Cardiff City in the final home match of last season, the worst team in the Premier League – Newcastle winning 3-0.

Altogether there have been nineteen first team matches, including a feeble FA Cup defeat to that self-same Cardiff.

The breakdown of the 19 matches has seen 7 wins, 2 draws and 10 defeats since last Boxing Day.

The other six wins have only been by one goal.

Amazingly, five of those six wins were by 1-0, the only other win where Newcastle scored more than one goal was the 2-1 win over Chelsea.

So basically, the only way Alan Pardew finds to win at home is with a defensive set-up that sometimes leads to a clean sheet, meaning one goal can win the game.

That’s entertainment!
