Rolando Aarons contract confusion as Manchester City and Liverpool show reported interest
Reports today claim that both Manchester City and Liverpool are monitoring Rolando Aarons with a view to a potential transfer.
Aarons only signed a first professional contract in April earlier this year, however the Sunday Times and others claim that this deal runs out at the end of this season, or the end of next season (depending on which reports you read), and no new contract has yet been discussed.
At the time of Rolando Aarons signing this deal, Newcastle United didn’t reveal the length of the contract, but the Sunday Times do also state that there is an option of a further one year deal – though how tightly either player and/or club are tied to this is unclear.
Hopefully Newcastle will make it a priority to tie the exciting winger down, Aarons who turned nineteen today has made a real impact in only a handful of matches.
Though sadly we won’t be seeing him for a while due to a second hamstring injury after Alan Pardew brought him back against expert advice.
If Rolando Aarons did become out of contract then Newcastle would still be eligible for compensation due to developing him as a youth player, though this would certainly be only a fraction of his real value.
Keeping his feet on the ground, Aarons has always spoke well and had this to say recently about comparisons with Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling;
“Raheem’s played really well for the past 2 or 3seasons and I’m nowhere near that level yet.
“I am nothing like him and I have got a long way to go before I can even consider myself to be anywhere like that.”
Not getting carried away;
“He has played for England at the World Cup while I have only managed 3 or 4 games for Newcastle.
“I don’t think there is any reason to get carried away.”
