Are these records about to fall at Newcastle United?

My son, who is a football statistics fanatic, told me that Newcastle United have only conceded one goal in their last five games and if we manage another clean sheet, against QPR, it will only be the third time we’ve managed this feat in the Premiership.

The last time when this happened was under Pardew’s leadership in 2011/12 when United finished fifth.

If we further manage to keep West Ham’s strikers at bay, it will be the best defensive run we’ve had since 1919. We’ve only ever achieved one goal against in seven matches one other time before, in 1909.

Now, if we can keep this form going and not concede against QPR, West Ham and then Burnley, who have only scored six goals so far this season, then that will be the best defensive record in our history.

Who’d have thought this was possible a few weeks back?

I have to say that I think that the defence and goalkeeper have been superb lately, but everyone is battling for every ball, from the striker right through the team and they and the coaches deserve credit for it.  I’m not one for stats but I like these.

The last run that I mentioned in 2012 was ended by Wigan, who beat us 4-0.

Now I went to that match and was called a Jonah by my mates.  I’m planning on going to the Burnley match, if I’m well enough, but am worried now!

Should I stay or should I go?
