Asked about the future for Hatem Ben Arfa in his pre-match Sunderland press conference, Alan Pardew said that the player needs to find a club where he ‘feels he is wanted’.

Pardew also claims that he brought out the best in the French enigma, stating that Ben Arfa played the best football of his career under Alan Pardew at Newcastle.

A strange statement to make considering how little Pardew played him, Hatem only starting 45 Premier League matches in Alan Pardew’s four years at St.James’ Park.

Whilst in France there will be much scratching of heads, seen as Hatem Ben Arfa won the French league with both Lyon and Marseille as well as two domestic cups, as well as playing Champions League football for both clubs.

Alan Pardew;

“This is a player who has played his best football here Newcastle, under me.

“I’m disappointed that that’s happened at Hull for him, personally.”

Lessons are staring Hatem in the face;

“I hope he finds a club where he feels he is wanted and that he performs to the highest level at. At all the right times and at all the right places.

“The answer is in Hatem’s lap really because he has an opportunity to find another club.

“He needs to take on board lessons that he’s learnt here and at Hull, because they are staring him in the face now.”
