If Obertan Is Pardew’s Answer Then What’s The Question?

If you wanted any more proof of how Ashley and Pardew just make it up as they go along, just look at the case of Gabriel Obertan.

After the winger had played OK in a couple of friendly appearances pre-season, Alan Pardew was full of it.

Saying he’d been great in training and thought Obertan could still play a big part this season, despite the new look strong squad…

Of course, that was Alan Pardew conveniently forgetting that they had just been on the tour of New Zealand and Obertan wasn’t even good enough to get on the plane. This was despite players such as Adam Campbell and Haris Vuckic, who clearly have no future as Premier League players sadly, making up the numbers by filling seats on the plane and in the squad.

Now there are strong rumours that Alan Pardew will ring the changes to try and get Newcastle scoring goals at Swansea.

Well the three subs Pardew brought on at Stoke were Cisse, Sammy Ameobi and…Obertan.

Needless to say we’d all be amazed if Pardew played with two strikers, so if that rules out Riviere keeping his place alongside Cisse (not that Riviere has shown anything to suggest he should keep it). then what does that leave?

That’s right, Sammy Ameobi and Gabriel Obertan, two players that Newcastle can’t even give away or get out on loan.

It isn’t their fault they are not good enough but just sums up the desperate situation that Ashley and Pardew have brought the squad to.

So if Gabriel Obertan is the answer at Swansea then I think we are all guaranteed to be asking even more questions than usual after the match.
