Nothing gets past Alan Pardew…‘You need somebody who can score goals’

Alan Pardew has had a moment of inspiration and declared that in the Premier League a club needs to have somebody who can score goals.

Whatever next?

The manager said this in connection with the return of Papiss Cisse to action and goals.

The same player of course who Alan Pardew has been desperate to get rid of and who the manager has regularly played as a winger, as well as amazingly at times preferring Shola Ameobi to Papiss Cisse last season.

You need a goalscorer;

“You need to have somebody who can score goals in the Premier League.

“You need that cutting edge and somebody who is going to deliver for you.

“He (Cisse) has got that at the moment, when we needed it.”

I said this team would benefit Papiss;

“I said this team will benefit Papiss and Papiss will benefit us. Hopefully that continues.

“It is four goals and it is good going for him.”

Talk about clutching at straws.

Alan Pardew was full of it in the summer, talking often about how he now had goals and creativity from countless members of his squad.

Recent years have seen Pardew regularly talk about it being essential to get goals from all areas of the squad and yet he has done next to nothing to change that, both in terms of tactics and personnel.

Corners and other set-pieces continue to be embarrassingly bad, whilst bringing in a constant stream of midfielders such as Sissoko, Anita, Colback and others who aren’t goalscorers.

The biggest blot this summer of course was Alan Pardew’s weakness in not forcing Mike Ashley to see that major investment had to be made in a credible striker who would more or less guarantee goals.

This failure by Pardew across the board means that it is poor old Papiss Cisse who carries all our desperate hopes in terms of goals.
