Nile Ranger interview – If only I’d listened to Michael Owen at Newcastle

Nile Ranger has been reflecting on where it all went wrong and says he wishes he’d taken more notice of Michael Owen when he was at St.James’ Park.

The former Newcastle striker admits he did a lot of stupid things and had it easy at United with a lot of money coming in.

However, he says that despite his attitude, players such as Owen, Ba, Cisse and Viduka would all take him to one side and try to help him.

Speaking to ‘Tangerine TV’ Nile Ranger said;

“Newcastle was definitely good, it put my name up there.

“They gave me a chance, a big chance, but I messed it up to be honest.”

Young and stupid;

“But everyone makes mistakes in life, I was young and getting a lot of money coming in, doing stupid things.

“Now it is time to focus, I’m not getting any younger, I’m twenty three.”

Michael Owen’s a ‘top top bloke’;

“Demba Ba came in, Cisse was there, Mark Viduka was there, Owen was there. They all used to take me aside and talk to me.

“MO (Michael Owen), he’s a top top bloke, he’d pull me to one side and say I needed to focus but to be fair, when I was young I thought I had it all.

“It can go in one ear and out the other, I wasn’t really taking it in. It’s silly but it is nice to know that players like Michael Owen care and see potential, try and help.”
