Niall Quinn ‘The Sunderland academy isn’t built to make Newcastle stronger’

Niall Quinn has said he won’t be encouraging people to boo Jack Colback but thinks it might be a different case for many Sunderland fans.

The former Sunderland Chairman/Manager/Player doesn’t begrudge Colback moving to a bigger club but he finds it difficult to accept that Sunderland didn’t receive a penny after developing the Ginger Geordie into the player he is today.

Speaking to the Express Niall Quinn said;

“The Sunderland academy is not built to make Newcastle stronger!

“We got the right money for Jordan Henderson which makes the whole thing worthwhile, but that should happen with all your young players if you develop them.”

A blow for Poyet;

“I felt for Gus Poyet as losing Colback was a blow, I imagine it was impossible to keep him.

“They’d have done everything to try and keep him”

Difficult to take;

“To see Newcastle get the benefit of it (Colback’s development at Sunderland) and the club not compensated, it is difficult.

“I am not in the club any more but it hurt me. Jack would have been a prized possession of the academy and it hurts to see it happen that way. It is the rules though, it is football, so there is no ill feeling towards Jack.”

Along with most Newcastle fans I have been surprised at just how good Jack Colback has been for United this season.

The fact he was named recently in the top ten hardest working players in the Premier League is testament to the job he does.

We all remember how much he celebrated his goal last season AGAINST his hometown club, I wouldn’t mind getting the chance to see what he does when he puts one in the mackems’ net…
