Newcastle entertain a Swansea side who have been dragged into the relegation dogfight and see a trip to St James’ Park as a possible opportunity to secure the points they need to maintain their Premier League status.

Despite recent training ground shenanigans, The Jacks impressed against Chelsea last weekend and were unfortunate to lose after playing for over 70 minutes with ten men; defender Chico Flores was sent-off for two bookable offences.

Garry Monk will have his squad fired up for the game and having lost six of our last eight home matches confidence is at rock bottom; even Sunderland have scored more goals at St James’ Park in 2014 than Newcastle.

The Swans have been disappointing on the road, collecting just two points from a possible fifteen, although the South Wales’ outfit have won each of the last three meetings between the two clubs.

Newcastle will be buoyed by the return of French duo Loic Remy (calf) and Mathieu Debuchy (calf), both players were back training on Thursday and provided they have no reaction will be included in Saturday’s match-day squad.

Hatem Ben Arfa (dead leg) is all but ruled out; the Frenchman was spotted at Newcastle Airport yesterday, suggesting the midfielder has failed to recover from a thigh injury. Steven Taylor looks to have shaken off a minor knock, meaning Newcastle could stick with same 3-5-2 formation adopted in the defeat at Stoke.

Moussa Sissoko has returned from Clairefontaine and is out running on the training pitches although Saturday will come too soon; Arsenal is a more realistic target. Davide Santon may have kicked his last ball during the 2013/14 campaign; the full-back is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury.

Just the one major concern for Swansea as Spanish playmaker Michu continues to struggle with an ongoing ankle problem; the forward had been receiving pain-killing injections but his latest setback could potentially end his season. A late fitness test, but considered very doubtful. Jordi Amat is likely to replace the suspended Flores. Wayne Routledge will be looking to impress upon his return, the midfielder has two goals and three assists so far this term.
