Newcastle United: ‘Back The Manager Not The Board’

So, at the start of the season I was well and truly behind Pardew . I understood exactly what he was trying to do, he’d built a decent team around the closest player to Paul Scholes in recent times, Yohan Cabaye .

He had instinctive finishing in Remy who also stretched teams with his pace and strength in behind opposition defences. Two quality holding players in the middle of the park and a settled back 4. We had a good first eleven.

Midway through the season we sell Yohan, which was good business, he didn’t want to be here and we got good money for him.

What gets to me the most though is that there was no plan B. I would give anyone a round of applause if they could name the current best team and how they are setting up! Or what Pardew is trying to achieve going game to game.

It is my honest belief that the man is lost. For me the season was over once Cabaye had left and there wasn’t a replacement player bought in. Which seems to be the growing trend from transfer window to transfer window.

So where does Pardew stand?

Do you sack a man who seems to set up well every season then gets his system disrupted every January, by selling of star players? We will see in the summer, if Ashley doesn’t back him with at least £50m we will be a shabby outfit struggling to survive and Pardew will take the hit 6-7 games in.

My personal view is it’s not the manager, it’s the board, Ashley is more than happy with Premiership football whether we finish 17th or 7th and is more than happy for this cycle to continue.

It breaks my heart that we’re not as ambitious as we used to be. Back the manager not the board!
