Newcastle looking at Benjamin Angoua transfer

Representatives of Benjamin Angoua have told French media that Newcastle United have been watching the central defender in recent matches and are looking to take him to Tyneside in January.

The 28 year old Ivory Coast international plays for Guingamp where Sylvain Marveaux is on loan.

At the weekend Newcastle’s scouting team won’t have failed to be impressed as Angoua was the French club’s best defender as they shut out Ibrahimovic and the rest of PSG’s superstars in a 1-0 win. Yohan Cabaye was an ineffective second half substitute…

Benjamin Angoua allowed his contract to run down at Valenciennes before moving over to Guingamp in the summer.

However, the defender’s club are resigned to offers coming in for one of their best performers this season and a fee of around £4m has been mentioned in the French press.

Not a bad profit for a player that cost them nothing and Guingamp accepting that the moderate wages he’s on, would be no match for what he’d be offered by a Premier League club.

Angoua is a teammate of Cheick Tiote with the Ivory Coast and played in World Cup qualifiers but didn’t make the plane to Brazil.
