Newcastle goalkeeper confirmed for Sunderland match

The Newcastle goalkeeper has been confirmed for the derby match on Sunday.

Following Jak Alnwick being treated twice on the pitch last night for a shoulder problem, Alan Pardew said that United would be reviewing the situation today and see how bad the injury was.

The Newcastle boss said that they would be looking into the possibility of an emergency loan if third choice Alnwick was ruled out.

However, the Shields Gazette have now said that the club this afternoon have confirmed Jak Alnwick is fine to continue in goal and will line up against Sunderland.

In what has turned into a nightmare scenario, United have hit arguably their toughest set of games of the season with a goalkeeper who had never previously played a single minute of first team football.

Badly at fault for the first goal yesterday and now coming off the back of conceding eight in two games, Jak Alnwick now faces the toughest game of all this season, maybe not in terms of quality but certainly when it comes to pressure.

You quite literally couldn’t make it up.
