Newcastle Fail In Australia, Asia and USA

The last issue of your magazine (No.281 of The Mag) is more than superb, an utter honour to read it. To all who were involved my most sincere thanks. It will be in the future a collectors’ treasured masterpiece, comparable to a first edition from Chaucer, Shakespeare, Dickens or Howard Linskey.

A superb article by Matt Feltz, with his perspective of following Newcastle from America.

Being a former season ticket holder, and regular attendee at away matches as well, for many many yeas but now living in Noosa – Australia, his article was very painful to read, but one of the most factual that I have ever read.

Lets look at some facts.

We had the 3rd highest home attendance in the PL last season.

We were the 4th most watched PL match, the one live at Old Trafford last season.

NUFC are/should be a “football magnet”.

Our pre-season we averaged an attendance of below 6,000. Which included Pacos estimated 2,000 and Rangers attendance not available.

The attendances were so poor I could not find them on the clubs’ website.

The highlight of those pre-season matches was AP saying, “we made Motherwell look ordinary”. My late mother’s dog who died over 50 years ago could have made that lot look ordinary.

Liverpool played in front of 83,000 in Indonesia and 90,000+ against Melbourne Victory. Manchester United played in front of 74,000 in Sydney. Tickets sold out in 14 minutes.

We are in the top 4/5 most watched PL clubs in Australia.

This Mr Ashley, represents a massive marketing opportunity for our beloved NUFC in Australia and Asia. I believe that you obviously want to sell our club as seen by your lack of investment in our team during the close season.

You had a superb opportunity to showcase our club to potential buyers across the world. How many shirts will you sell and new NUFC fans will YOU get in Blackpool, St Mirren, Motherwell and Glasgow?

Have you heard about what is happening stateside? On the subway in New York, some trains have got on their doors ‘Arsenal fans enter here’.

Other similar slogans include choice of ‘keep calm and pick Liverpool/Everton/Fulham’. The latter enough to drive you to drink! They have only had three good players in their history; Sir Bobby, Johnny Haynes and Lee Clark! This supports NBC’s intention to show 1,600+ hours of PL football season 2013/2014. They also have, so I have been told a very good TV commercial which I believe does not feature NUFC. This tbc.

Don’t worry fellow readers, St. Mirren fans will be coming over the border to buy NUFC shirts etc.

My car registration number in Queensland Australia is NUFC 1. I was recently stopped by the police, the officer asked me if NUFC 1 stood for Newcastle Football Club, after replying yes, he then informed me that “NUFC fans did not deserve this crap.”

We will not be relegated, but it could be a long hard season.

All the best to all connected to the Mag in any shape fashion or form.

Love the team, Not the regime.

This special issue of The Mag is a must have and along with special Silver Anniversary features we bring you the very best coverage of what is happening NOW at our great club.
