Why is Michael Wallace Ashley hanging in with Rangers?

From a toon viewpoint, we watch from afar and many suspect he is going to do at Rangers what he is doing at Newcastle. Based on what we fans have experienced in the last 8 years than I would imagine our blueprint will soon be in place down Govan way (such as lack of communication, ticket membership schemes, lack of away tickets, lies, club being run on a shoestring, lack of ambition etc).

Over the years Scottish football has come across some pretty laughable characters such as another Wallace (Mercer), who suggested once that both Edinburgh clubs should join together.

Well, we know by now it’s almost impossible to second guess Mr Ashley but I must praise the toon fans because some have a good handle on what he is up to, in respect of his next move up the road in Glasgow. However, even the most avid fan of what’s happening would be surprised he has hung around the Ibrox (future) gravy train for so long. All I can say is, ‘Mike, I hope it’s all going to be worth it when you get your hands on whatever it is you financially want, but in the meantime your brand(s) in Scotland may never see the heights of sales that they do elsewhere in the UK or abroad.

Which brings me to the up and coming Glasgow derby game (its a still a derby game regardless of the fact some may class Rangers as a new club and be reluctant to call it an auld firm anymore) which some people are suggesting will be an easy win for their bitter rivals – heaping more embarrassment on Ashley.

But hey, this man is used to being embarrassed as no doubt he has been to many Toon games where we fans have had to sit through shoddy performances, as well as managerial appointments, so just as well he isn’t in this game for the love of football.

It makes no difference to him and this perhaps is the reason why us football fans should stick together because (I know it’s been said a million times) there are 2 types of people in this world, those that give and those that take. Ashley is a taker. I would also assume with the middle name of Wallace, that Ashley may have had some kind of link to Scotland in the past and if this is true, then he should hang his head in shame.

Thing is now, Ashley can’t lose face even if it costs him millions, he probably doesn’t care about a few million but he has these onerous contracts up his sleeve which are kind of holding Rangers to ransom. Though all I can see now is he is in for one hell of a fight with serious (respected amongst fans) opposition holding shares, sadly like us though the Rangers fans are the ones who have to suffer until all the shenanigans are done and dusted. To be honest, Mike must love the excitement and I often wonder how he sleeps at night as he plays with supporters emotions.

What is guaranteed is those Dark Blue legions will be back one day and I for one must praise them for standing up to him which the majority of Newcastle fans have failed to do.

Yet again, at Newcastle thousands upon thousands turning up to sit and watch their below average team at home (I am not calling it support as the atmosphere at SJP is a joke, apart from a few hundred singers).

I am all for supporting Newcastle home and away when they are struggling and playing crap every week but only in the knowledge that our board would be pulling out all the stops, on and off the pitch, to make things better.

Instead of taking away our hopes and dreams of being at Wembley with friends and family, just maybe seeing a glorious day where we win a cup and bring it back home to half a million geordies around the streets of Newcastle.
