It is apparent to everybody what an important player and personality Yohan Cabaye is at St.James’ Park.

The latest confirmation of what a key role Cabaye has played in player recruitment, has come in an interview with the FIFA website by new centre-back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa;

“Yohan Cabaye told us a lot of good things about Newcastle United.

Obviously when somebody you know, talks about what they’ve experienced in that way, it makes you want the same thing.

There is good football here and the people are passionate about football. The supporters live for their club and they are always behind the team, the do everything to help the players perform as well as possible.

There is also a great tactical culture with recognition for good bits skill on the pitch, even for defensive ones. There is everything I need at Newcastle to thrive”.

Mapou also made clear he sees the move to Tyneside as a big help, rather than a hindrance, to his international ambitions;

“Without wishing to offend anybody, France are amongst the best in the world and my goal was to do everything I can to get my foot in the door of the national team.

Playing for France is for me a key ingredient of my career, having made it to the provisional squad for the Euros it gave me great motivation to work hard every day, so that can be part this adventure in years to come.

If you play together all year round it obviously lets you build that understanding on the pitch and helps you to know one another better. If we then end up together at international level then that can certainly help the French team”.

The professionalism of the new players is summed up by what the defender gets up to in his spare time;

“I’m looking for the recipe to stay in shape and to keep playing as long as possible, so I’ve already researched some of the secrets of Manchester United players.

Apparently Giggs, Beckham and Scholes all do yoga and eat lots of pasta with olive oil, though I’m still investigating!”.
