Magnificent gesture by family of MH17 victim John Alder

The family of MH17 victim and ardent Newcastle fan John Alder, have made a magnificent gesture in memory of their loved one.

John’s sister, Joyce Robbins, has donated her brother’s massive collection of match programmes and memorabilia, with all proceeds from the auction going to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

The vast collection is planned to be auctioned by Anderson and Garland auctioneers in the New Year, with the company kindly supplying their services free of charge.

The exact date and further details will be forthcoming.

A great gesture and while I know it is always easy to spend somebody else’s money, wouldn’t it  be great if…

There has already been a memorial garden put in place at St.James’ Park to honour of both John Alder and his fellow fan and MH17 victim Liam Sweeney.

That’s great and a fine tribute to both.

However, as we all know John and Liam’s passion was the football, and Newcastle United, more to the point.

When somebody like John goes to every single match, just think what he could potentially have in his collection?

Wouldn’t it be great if there is somebody out there (with a few quid obviously) who would be prepared to bid for the entire collection and then allow it to be put on public display at somewhere like the Discovery Museum or similar?

This could be a permanent exhibit in tribute to both fans and give all supporters the chance to enjoy the Newcastle United history that both fans experienced, with some rare programmes and pieces of memorabilia that they will never have seen.

This would surely be the very best and most fitting memorial and if somebody is out there who has the money, please have a think and make a lot of people very happy.
