Loic Remy Would Cost Liverpool £8m But Newcastle £15m – Find Out Why?

No wonder contracts take so long sorting out these days, when it comes to Loic Remy they have taken it to a whole new level.

It has long been an established thing that the more successful a club then the cheaper they can buy a player, due to the fact a player will actively agitate to join clubs with ambition and so often leave their club with little choice but to sell.

However, in the case of Loic Remy, this is actually written into his contract.

It has long been generally known that the QPR striker had a release clause in his contract but further details have now emerged and are being widely reported this morning.

It turns out that the much talked about £8m release clause for Remy does exist, but only for clubs in the Premier League top four.

If a club from the next two positions (5th/6th) then the release clause is £11m, then for the unwashed (those outside top six) including Newcastle, the trigger becomes £15m (Though obviously QPR could choose to sell at certain prices to whoever, these are just the release clause prices that would force them to sell).

While this is an extreme in terms of having it written down in black and white, it does sum up the foolhardy nature of Mike Ashley when Newcastle finished fifth in 2012.

If the United owner had allowed decent spending on players in that window then many more players would have been interested in coming to Tyneside and no doubt at competitive prices, as Newcastle would have looked an attractive club on the up at that moment in time.

Building on success is a whole lot easier than trying to do it on the back of struggle or mediocrity.
