John Carver ‘We Lacked Quality’

You can talk all day about managers, coaches, whoever – but John Carver summed up Newcastle United’s team/squad after the Fulham defeat.

Alan Pardew’s assistant said a number of times post-match ‘we lacked quality’ and sadly that saw United’s predictable (to many of us) downfall against the bottom of the table team.

The available strikers don’t score goals, the midfield is devoid of creativity, while despite the undoubted class Coloccini brought to the defence – you can’t rely on keeping the opposition out for ninety minutes to sneak a draw.

This is what John Carver had to say post-match;

“It has been a difficult day and we lacked quality.

“Papiss gets in there but Stockdale makes a fantastic save and then ut breaks, Luuk De Jong gets caught from behind but they break and we defend poorly – let the guy come inside onto his right foot and we lost the match.

“I cannot fault the lads for effort but we lacked quality and the game hinged on a few key decisions.

“I have just had a look at it (penalty appeal) and it hits the arm, there is no pace on the ball so it isn’t as though it happened quickly.

“I had a nice sensible conversation with Howard Webb he said he was in a difficult position to see it and so he hasn’t given it.

“We’ve got to accept but certainly I had to count to ten, After the last few weeks we have to be on our best behaviour.”
