John Carver has given Newcastle injuries update on nine players ahead of the match with Burnley.

The most negative part was confirmation that Rolando Aarons will be out for at least another three or four weeks, meaning it will almost certainly February before we see him again.

On the other hand the caretaker boss assured fans that Davide Santon was fine after he was forced off in the friendly against Gateshead on Tuesday, the defender getting a kick on the calf but Carver stating that he will be involved in the squad against Burnley.

Jonas Gutierrez is still progressing and got his second comeback game under his belt in that Gateshead friendly, while Massadio Haidara is back in today’s squad after an unspecified injury kept him out recently.

On the goalkeeping front, Tim Krul is dues to start training again on Monday and Rob Elliot the following week.

Sammy Ameobi’s recovery from a knee problem will see him due back just after the middle of January and Ryan Taylor early February.

Mehdi Abeid was due to be away until February at least with the Algerian squad but John Carver revealed it was touch and go as to whether he will travel to the African Cup of Nations, as his broken toe continues to cause him problems. Either way he would be unavailable for Newcastle.

However, no mention of Siem De Jong so fingers crossed he is still heading in the right direction.
