Alan Pardew has suggested that former Newcastle player Joey Barton could be going down the route of football management.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, the United manager admitted that he had kept in touch with Barton since he left St.James’ Park but wouldn’t ‘elaborate’ on what they chatted about.

However, on the specific question of whether he thought Joey Barton could move into management, Alan Pardew said he ‘could possibly go down that line’.

“Joey is not going to go away quietly.

“I am sure he has got a plan, I think Joey could possibly go down that line. It is a question for Joey.

“I have always enjoyed working with him and we still have the odd communication, just now and then, I am not elaborating on that.”

In a recent interview, Barton talked about the route he took from a tough upbringing to ending up in jail whilst at Newcastle.

He does seem to have moved on from the person he was a few years ago and his aggression these days is confined to barbed comments on Twitter rather than McDonalds punch-ups in the early hours of the morning.

An interesting one for the future.
