Is this former Newcastle striker the most unlikely wannabe manager?

Former Newcastle striker Michael Chopra says that he now fancies giving management a try.

The Geordie is currently in India playing for the Kerala Blasters FC (part owned by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar) in the new Super League there, and wants to follow in the footsteps of David James (Chopra’s current manager) and Marco Materazzi who are acting as player-managers for teams in the Indian Super League.

Anybody aware of Chopra’s football career so far, particularly off the pitch, would find it hard to see him given any real responsibility.

However, that hasn’t stopped Michael Chopra giving Sky Sports a host of reasons as to why he would be ideal;

“I have plenty of knowledge and a status out here because I’m of Indian origin, also because I was the first Indian to play in the Premier League, so I have a lot of things going for me.”

Sir Bobby;

“Plus look at some of the managers I have worked under, such as Sir Bobby Robson and Roy Keane.

“Sir Bobby was one of the best managers in history. I learnt so much from him.”

I worked for Roy who knew Alex…;

“I also played under Roy who has worked under Sir Alex Ferguson who many regard as the best manager ever.”

Lots of experience and knowledge;

“So I’ve got lots of experience and knowledge about the game even at this moment in time, that is why I’m starting to think about when I go the other way.”
