Fighting Draw Against Hull Means Alan Pardew Lives To Fight Another Day…Probably

A pressure cooker atmosphere saw Alan Pardew potentially live to fight another day as his team came back from two goals down to snatch a point.

Mike Ashley looked anything but happy as visitors Hull eased into what looked a winning two goal lead with two quality strikes.

The first half had seen United start full of endeavour and for the first twenty minutes they were clearly the better team but lacked a cutting edge.

Maybe no coincidence then that it took a replacement striker to spark a difference and Papiss Cisse showed more threat in twenty minutes than Emmanuel Riviere has show in some in the six matches so far.

Like the rest of his teammates Riviere had shown no lack of effort but in reality, a pretty much total absence of class.

Steve Bruce showed us all once again his limitations as despite a two goal lead he froze and failed to press home the advantage over what looked a beaten Newcastle team.

Alan Pardew no doubt will wax lyrical about his inspired substitution but this was really desperation stakes with Cisse clearly not match fit after a minimum of preparation.

I suppose we can at least give Pardew credit that he didn’t play the returning Cisse at left wing or…left-back.
