Does Everton Match Prove Mike Ashley’s Gone Soft In His Old Age?

In the build up to tonight’s (mis-)match with Everton, Alan Pardew came up with some quotes that were embarrassing even by his standards.

The Newcastle manager stated that Mike Ashley was going to be at St.James’ Park for tonight’s game against Everton and that this proves the NUFC owner is doing it to show his support for Pardew, having according to the manager, also being at the Fulham and Palace games of the last 10 days.

“I do not want to say what was said in private discussions but it’s a fact he’s (Mike Ashley) been to the three games that I have missed.

“In terms of for the club, that bodes well because he knows that in the summer, we have a bit of work to do.

“He will be at the game tonight and that means he has been to the three that I have missed – so obviously for me it’s been great that he has shown that support.

“It’s important in my absence that he did that and I thought it was great that he did do that.”

Well after not buying any players for over a year and missing all but a couple of our home matches this season, I don’t know exactly how that equals Ashley showing his ‘support’.

As for the thought of a ruthless businessman like Mike Ashley making an effort to come to the match just to support Alan Pardew, well it’s just laughable isn’t it.

Why exactly Ashley has decided to suddenly watch his team is a mystery to us all after not bothering all season.

Those of you out there with your glasses half full will no doubt be hoping/expecting major transfer activity in the summer.

I really hope you are right because at least half of that team was nowhere near good enough against Everton and simply would be a disaster waiting to happen if they were first teamers next season.
