Derek Llambias never had these problems with Sunderland when at Newcastle

Mike Ashley’s former Newcastle United sidekick Derek Llambias, found out things are a little different north of the border.

Appointed to the Rangers board to oversee Ashley’s interests, Llambias was travelling back out of Glasgow Airport after a flying visit.

Unwittingly Derek Llambias walked into a press scrum who were covering Celtic flying off for a European clash in Romania, obviously a problem he never ran into with Sunderland when he was Managing Director at St.James’ Park.

The press pack naturally saw an opportunity too good to miss and swarmed around the new Rangers Director, firing questions at him.

As well as journalists, the cameras caught all the action as Llambias desperately tried to get away from the media, repeatedly saying “No Comment” as the reporters asked about Mike Ashley’s intentions and Llambias’ role at the Glasgow club. The only information they managed to extract was that Llambias would be back in Glasgow today (Thursday).

Things got more uncomfortable for Llambias as he joined what looked a normal queue for checking in (Mike Ashley’s budget not stretching to any executive travel arrangements?) and found himself separated from the journalists by one of those extendable queuing dividers and thin air.

As Llambias desperately looked for help he spotted and summoned a police officer to try and move the press along but to no avail. The flustered Rangers Director muttering to the policeman, ‘I wasn’t expecting this.”

A relieved Derek Llambias eventually checked in and disappeared from view, leaving the press to return to overseeing Celtic’s European departure.
