Frank De Boer Says Ajax Will Miss Daley Blind But Not Siem De Jong

Going for Ajax’s fifth league title in a row, Coach Frank De Boer believes that the Dutch side will miss Daley Blind but not Siem De Jong.

Ajax started their league campaign with two wins, but after a home defeat to PSV they followed it up by losing at Groningen last weekend.

Interviewed on TV in Holland after these two setbacks, De Boer claims that Manchester United’s Blind will be the only departed player he will miss, with De Jong’s injury riddled and average season last campaign, meaning his sale won’t hamper their chances this time.

Frank De Boer;

“Siem hardly played (last season), so you can write that off.

“Only Daley played almost every time, so that you miss – that’s the only player (we’ll miss).”

Siem De Jong had a bad time with injuries in 2013/14, suffering a thigh strain, hamstring injury and collapsed lung, meaning he only started 16 league matches and in 8 of those he was substituted due to fitness and form concerns.

Sadly, De Jong struggled for fitness in pre-season and has now broken down completely with an injury said to be suffered in training, with even Newcastle United admitting he will be out for a ‘number of months’. This following Alan Pardew’s admission that he’d risked playing De Jong against Crystal Palace even though he wasn’t fully fit.

It doesn’t take a genius to work out that Ajax appear quite happy to have allowed SIem De Jong to move on, with fitness/injury concerns coming into play for the twenty five year old.
