Which Current Players Would Get Into This Eleven That Alan Pardew Let Go?

With each passing week the ability of the Newcastle United squad or team, without just a couple of key players, looks ever more worrying.

Sitting watching the current rubbish got me thinking – dangerous I know.

This present team without the undoubted quality of on loan Remy and sold off Cabaye is looking ramshackle.

So rather than daydreaming of who we might sign in the summer…if anybody, my mind drifted back in the opposite direction.

I was going to go back and look at the kind of team we could have had from amongst the players who’ve left during the whole of Mike Ashley’s reign, but just looking through those who have left while Alan Pardew alone has been in command, makes for some decent debate.

What I suggest is that you simply look at these players as they were for Newcastle, rather than what has happened since and ignore resulting injuries or whatever.

So simply compare the current team under Alan Pardew, with the team he and Mike Ashley have let go. Yes I know some of the players have wanted to go but on that point, rather than simply blaming only the players, just ask yourself how many players were desperate to leave when Kevin Keegan and Sir Bobby Robson were at the helm?

Here is my Alan Pardew All Star Ex-NUFC Eleven;

While the ex-team is a bit short on central defenders (though some of you may say the same about the current lot…), I have to say that there would be only one winner if the two sides met up.

With Remy not signed up for Newcastle, it is a no-brainer that Ba and Carroll would be picked miles ahead of Cisse and the rest. Even Leon Best would surely be seen as a better bet than Shola and maybe even more likely to score than Cisse on present form.

Of the current midfield who would get in ahead of Routledge, Barton, Cabaye and Nolan?

I think Tiote would deserve a place and  a fair few of you would put Sissoko forward but from what we’ve recently seen, are any of our midfield capable of creating and scoring goals on any kind of remotely regular basis?

At the back you would probably put Debuchy and Williamson up as our two most reliable performers but the way the goals have flown in you would be hard pushed to say that as defenders we have any real quality, apart from Coloccini – though even he has been dismal this season. The form Enrique showed at Newcastle makes him a no-brainer for the team in my opinion, while the likes of Perch & Simpson are arguably no worse than much of what we’ve seen this season.

In goal we never really got a chance to have a proper look at Fraser Forster in a Newcastle strip so we can only judge him on what he’s done since. Performing heroics in the Champions League for Celtic and getting called up for the England squad tells you everything. On the other hand, Tim Krul has really struggled this season, with both form and injuries, sadly making it a very remote possibility he will be going to Brazil.

In summary I would therefore go with the following combined eleven;

Forster, Debuchy, Coloccini, Enrique, Sissoko, Barton, Tiote, Cabaye, Nolan, Ba, Carroll
