Cunning Plan – Kinnear Out, David Dein In & Alan Pardew To Try And Win Rather Than Not Losing

I write this as the new season looms large and the transfer window is open, although it looks like we still have the curtains shut!

I have followed NUFC since the mid 70s (I’m 45) and had my first junior season ticket (£25 East Stand Benches) in 1981-2 season.  I’ve seen players, managers and boards come and go.

However, I am depressed and concerned about the current state of affairs at SJP.

The owner seems to lack any ambition and is unwilling to put money in when it is most needed.  This summer looks like a carbon copy of last year where we failed to strengthen, leaving the squad desperately short of options and cover.  By the time the January signings had bedded in we were in a relegation dogfight.

The manager lacks tactical nous and relies too much on a system that doesn’t work.  He picks the same players even when they hadn’t performed in previous games and insists on playing key players like Sissoko out of position.

We have a plethora of coaches who are just not good enough and appear to contribute nothing.

The joke that is the director of football is a layer of bureaucracy to prevent Pardew from talking directly to Ashley and badgering him for more players and more transfer money.

This summer we have seen no activity except the giving away of James Perch,  who had proved himself a valuable squad player.  My fear is that the bigger names will leave, or be injured, and we need players like Perch on the bench to plug the gaps in the short-term.  That said, the strength of the squad is not good enough.  Players like Abeid, Amaltifano, Gosling, Ferguson Sammy Ameobi are not premier quality.

So what next?

I want Ashley to put money in for signings To see players who you were linked with going to lesser clubs (Bony  to Swansea, another to Southampton) is galling and depressing.  I don’t subscribe to those who just want Ashley out- we need a person or consortium who can take over and put investment in, as well as keep the club on a sound financial footing.  Do we really want to go back to the spending chaos of Freddie Shepherd (nice guy, toon fan, but terrible with the finances) or another John Hall who put some money in but took a heck of a lot more out of the club?

I would definitely get rid of Kinnear.  That would lift the mood of the fans.  We then need a David Dein type of figurehead to oversee the day to day runningoif the club from Newcastle whilst Ashley lives in his southern pad.

Pardew needs to go back to the plan that got us to fifth place and have the guts to go for a win rather than try not to lose.

The players need to shape up or ship out.  Too many went through the motions last year.

And the fans…whatever your views…leave the negativity outside the ground and get behind the team on the pitch.  The negative and poisonous atmosphere plays straight into the hands of the opposition. Compare the away atmosphere – it’s miles better.

Keep the faith – Support the Lads.
