Alan Pardew ‘Win and we take ourselves right in amongst top 6 again’
Alan Pardew has said that the result of the Sunderland match won’t change the season but If United do win, then it would lead people to talk about it being a ‘really good first half’ of the season.
While if Sunderland win tomorrow, they will be talked about as having a ‘decent’ first half of the season.
Pardew also talked about this time of year being when teams such as Liverpool show their class and are picking up points – which will come as news to the scousers who are in the bottom half of the table and have four defeats and a draw with the mackems in their last seven Premier League matches.
The United boss’ loose grip on the facts also saw him claim that a Newcastle win would mean United being ‘right in amongst the top six again’.
That was never going to be the case and at best Newcastle can realistically be as high as eighth after tomorrow, at worst tenth.
Alan Pardew;
“There’s no mystery to me that Spurs, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, are all picking up now.
“They all have bigger squads, they have real quality and they are in the groove – no Champions League games, no Europa League games, so if you are going to make an impact you are going to do it in December and we’ve got tough games.
“If we can get through to January where we are now, I’d take it. I think we could have a good second half of the season.
Perception;
“The derby result won’t change the season.
“Perception? Perhaps, because the perception of the season is if Sunderland win it will be that they’ve had a decent first half and if we win, it will be a really good first half. That’s the perception, points-wise – it’s three points and we must never get away from that.
“We’re in a really great position in the league and if we win, we take ourselves right in amongst the top six again, this is the period when top teams come through.”
