Alan Pardew – Never Slow To Try And Take The Credit As Usual

Looking for positives from Saturday’s fortunate draw again Crystal Palace isn’t easy, though Alan Pardew has pointed to the obvious Rolando Aarons, no doubt marking him down as the latest player he has introduced to the big time.

The Newcastle manager has once again claimed credit and namechecked Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jonjo Shelvey and Mark Noble as players he gave debuts to and who have gone on to be established Premier League players.

However, Pardew only gave Oxlade-Chamberlain and Shelvey two league starts each, while Mark Noble had four under the current Newcastle manager. So developing and progressing these three as first team players is somewhat wide of the mark for Pardew to claim.

As for Rolando Aarons, if you remember it was only the previous weekend when Pardew left Aarons totally out of his eighteen on duty at Villa, even preferring the woeful Gabriel Obertan on the bench.

Rolando Aarons has ability and a chance of making it but Pardew simply got lucky on Saturday and hopefully the winger won’t be yet another player who ends up ruined under the Newcastle boss.

“They were strange goals in terms of goalscorers.

“Daryl will get goals for us because he ends up in the box, so that one wasn’t unusual.

“Willo’s was because he never scores. Three inches for him is about as far as he can kick it but he needed a goal.

“So many chances at set-plays since I have been here and he needs to take them.

“We need centre-halves to score goals, so that is a bonus.

“Then of course Rolando, who without a doubt was the highlight of the day.

“I gave debuts to (Oxlade-) Chamberlain, Jonjo Shelvey, Mark Noble…and I put him in that category but he needs to see it through.

“They’ve all become established Premiership players, very good Premiership players, so he can become as good as them.

“He needs to focus and keep his feet on the ground. He can become a force for us and he (Aarons) couldn’t have done more in the fifteen minutes he had.”
