Alan Pardew and the importance of ‘Seven’

Alan Pardew has claimed that he and everybody else at Newcastle United have learnt their lessons from the first seven Premier League matches of the season.

Let us hope that top of those lessons are how to kick the ball into the opposition net and also how to stop it going past Tim Krul quite so often.

Maybe more to the point though is what Alan Pardew has learnt in seven hundred matches as a manager, that milestone coming up today against Leicester.

Learning lessons;

“The most important thing is focusing on the work, making sure we analyse what went on before in those first seven (Premier League) games and what is going to happen going forward.

“We have had a chance to do that and reflect on the team and the most important thing is the team come out stronger.”

“I think we will because we have learnt some lessons from those first seven games.

We work harder than anybody else;

“One thing that does back us up in terms of the effort and commitment of the squad are the stats, because every team we have played we’ve outworked, without getting the results that we want. The most important thing is that we win the game on Saturday.

“Therefore if we keep hitting those sorts of barriers in our workrate and our commitment and our desire, we’ll get that win.”

I have a horrible feeling that the reason that Newcastle United’s stats maybe do show the players have ran around more than the opposition, is because they’ve had to chase the ball and been largely clueless when in possession.

Players such as Moussa Sissoko a prime example, he’s run around a lot but what has it achieved?
