Alan Pardew Identifies At Least Five Signings Needed In The Summer

When asked about this summer’s player recruitment, Alan Pardew has revealed he believes Newcastle need at least five signings to get the team/squad where it needs to be.

The manager identifying the key areas as being ‘strikers’ (plural), a replacement for the departed Yohan Cabaye, plus at least a couple of other sin unspecified positions.

This is what the manager had to say on the summer ahead;

“We are going to have to be a lot more active this summer, than we have been for a while, because we are looking light in certain areas.

“Strikers is one where we are going to have to address for sure, plus we are going to have to find a replacement for Cabaye.

“That’s a big job in itself, let alone a couple of other positions that we might need.”

The way Alan Pardew is speaking is a far cry from Joe Kinnear’s statements in the match programme (statements revealed earlier this week by the club not to have been written by Kinnear but rather a means for the club owner to get his message out), where he talked of Newcastle been in a position now where we only needed to sign one or two players each season to keep things ticking over.

Mike Ashley’s calculator will no doubt be smashed into a thousand pieces when he heard his manager’s shopping list.

Sadly, experience tells us that whatever Alan Pardew says needs to happen in terms of players arriving, rarely becomes reality.
