Alan Pardew ‘I Don’t Think Newcastle Fans Would Have Expected Us To Win At Villa’

In the build up to Saturday’s match, Alan Pardew has stated that he doesn’t think Newcastle fans would have expected his players to win at Villa but will expect them to beat Palace.

A bit of a strange statement considering Newcastle’s great record in recent years at Villa Park, the fact they almost got relegated last season and certainly with Benteke missing look easily one of the weakest teams in the Premier League once again, summed up by a feeble defeat at home to Leyton Orient in midweek.

The Newcastle manager has also stated that if United beat Palace then it will represent a very good start to the season, with the flipside of that surely if Newcastle don’t win then it will be a not very good start at all, considering United will have already had one each of easily the most winnable home and away matches.

Alan Pardew at his pre-match press conference;

“If we get a win on Saturday it would be a good start from us.

“Actually I’ll be very pleased with the start because the Manchester City game was always going to be defining to a degree.

“How we coped in that first game with so many new signings, and I couldn’t have been more pleased, not so much with the result but the performance.

“We have taken that on in our second and third games, now the fourth game – and there’s a little more pressure.

“I don’t think our fans would have expected us to win at Villa, they’d have liked us to, but they’ll expect us to win against Palace.”
