Alan Pardew After Rangers Draw – ‘We Are Building up Nicely’

When I saw the team line-up before the match it was clearly Alan Pardew’s first team and he was obviously looking to build some momentum with a positive result…a last gasp equaliser at third tier Rangers was not what he had in mind.

Newcastle lined up with Krul, Debuchy, Colo, Taylor, Santon, Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Tiote, Sissoko, Jonas, Cisse…we haven’t got the biggest squad so who exactly would Alan have picked if this had been a competitive game?

Well, the manager revealed that Remy is knackered at the moment and West Ham is the earliest we may possibly see him so he can be ruled out.

I know some of you out there would find a place for Marveaux and/or Anita but everything we’ve seen before tells us Alan Pardew wouldn’t.

So surely the only possibles are choosing between Mapou & Taylor and possibly Gouffran for Jonas – however, Alan Pardew picked out Gutierrez for a special mention after the match so maybe not.

This is how the manager summed up the draw against Rangers to NUFC TV;

“It was a great game in terms of competitiveness. We wasn’t at our best tonight it is fair to say, the pitch didn’t really help as it was a bit long the grass, it slowed the ball down.

We got stronger as the game went on, which was pleasing, gave everybody a game tonight which was the intention, we are building up nicely.”

If you haven’t got the club’s TV channel then I reckon it could be worth the forty odd quid it costs a year just to see Pardew’s face when the club interviewer asked him the following question;

Interviewer; ‘Less than two weeks until the start of Premier League season, did some of your substitutes play their way into your thoughts?’

“Well….no, because that wasn’t the first team that started, it was the team that started, that’s all. The first team is still to be decided.

I thought Jonas did really well, he was really positive, looked like his old self.”

Pure comedy, though after this performance and result I doubt many of us are laughing.
