Alan Pardew admits he started to doubt himself

Alan Pardew has admitted that with no wins in seven Premier League matches he started to question himself and his ‘management experience’.

The United boss claiming that what was happening on the training pitch and indeed in matches, wasn’t been reflected in results.

However, Pardew says that since the first win United have had momentum and built on it game by game.

Alan Pardew;

“OK, you think this could be something…then you have a run of disappointments, although playing quite well.

“You start questioning your own eyes and your own management experience.”

Momentum;

“But we felt that there was something here and suddenly we just hit the ground and got a win, got another one, then just built on that.

“The spirit in the group is fantastic.”

Personally I don’t think the team were playing quite well in that opening couple of months, the defending was abysmal and it was a real struggle to score goals at the other end.

A big turning point was when players who weren’t delivering, such as Gouffran, Anita, Riviere and Cabella were replaced by players who gave more to the team, which obviosuly did raise the level of performance and has led to this winning run.

One thing the manager is definitely right about is that the more you win then the more you are likely to win the next match and so on. Momentum and confidence are massive things.

Alan Pardew wants us to believe that things would have turned out ok as the performances were already deserving of wins but as I’ve said above, if he’d kept playing the same team then I don’t think things would have changed very much, if at all.

I think as well it is a bit of a cop out that the Newcastle manager has repeatedly put the dramatic second half of the season last campaign simply down to Yohan Cabaye leaving.

Yes it was always going to have a negative effect but it should never have equalled just how bad that run got – leading to only five Premier League wins in ten months as the dismal pattern continued into this season.

As for Alan Pardew ever doubting himself…that really does take some believing!
