97% of Newcastle fans set to be disappointed

The Newcastle fans have once again shown their fickle nature, well at least if you take at face value the returns in recent polls.

Ironically on the same day that they were fed the exclusive by the club that John Carver had been given the Newcastle head coach job at least until the end of the season, the Chronicle had only hours earlier declared that 97% of Newcastle fans want Frank De Boer as new head coach’.

Many of you will be a little bemused if you’d seen the Chronicle headline only six days earlier declaring that ‘Newcastle fans want Remi Garde as new boss’. That article indeed stating that the Frenchman was the ‘overriding winner’. A week is a long time in politics but even longer at Newcastle United. In that earlier poll only 14% of Newcastle fans ‘wanted’ Frank De Boer.

As many of you will know though, you can usually get the answer you want, if you ask the right question.

So a week ago it was Remi Garde who was being hyped by NCJ media and others, with fans being given a choice of which manager/head coach they’d prefer, with Remi Garde getting 37% of the votes, 14% Frank De Boer and Thomas Tuchel a distant third with 3%.

The difference earlier today was that because De Boer was pretty much the only credible candidate to show the remotest interest and/or not categorically rule himself out, he’d become the only palatable choice.

So the question asked by the Chronicle was simply ‘Would you like Frank De Boer as the new Newcastle United head coach?’, with 97% saying yes. Reports are unconfirmed that Carver, Beardsley and Stone made up the no vote…

I hate to shatter any illusions (delusions?) but the idea of Frank De Boer coming to Mike Ashley’s Newcastle United is simply ludicrous.

National journalists yesterday rightly savaged the ‘vision’ Lee Charnley gave of the new head coach position on behalf of Mike Ashley last week.

The idea that Frank De Boer would give up winning titles, Champions League football and total control of an always trying to be ambitious Ajax, for Newcastle…is laughable.

To come to a club where he would have no say on transfers in and out and therefore absolutely no chance to build a team in his image, a club that makes a profit in the transfer market and an owner who banks the new TV riches, leaving a squad that lacks quality and numbers. With Lee Charnley even declaring that the new head coach will only be allowed to talk about certain areas of the club.

In Frank De Boer’s interviews when he was asked about Newcastle, his eyes only lit up when he went on to talk of previously been linked with the Spurs and Liverpool jobs, leaving nobody in any doubt that he has no intention of coming to this shambles of a club. To me it is blatant that he is using the speculation about Newcastle to make clear to the rest of the Premier League that he fancies a summer move to England but not to Tyneside.

The angle that we are supposed to swallow about waiting for the right man who is currently employed as a manager, has also put Steve McClaren as another of the big favourites. The belief that he has supposedly told Newcastle that he won’t leave now but has agreed to come in the summer.

Derby are one of the hot favourites to come up into the Premier League from the Championship and once again, do you seriously think the former England boss would consider for one second coming to Newcastle if Derby got promoted? He’s loved at that club, has total control of all team affairs and transfers, plus no doubt he would get a big wedge of money to spend on players of his choosing if they did come up.What on earth have Newcastle United got to offer him in comparison?

This is just how depressing the whole thing gets, once upon a time attracting the likes of De Boer or McClaren would have been a no-brainer for both, now they would literally need to have no brain to consider it.
