Fans Give Verdict on Newcastle United v Manchester City

Battle still rages in the media about the rights and wrongs of the Newcastle United v Manchester City match.

The visitors may have taken away the three points but United made them fight all the way.

The injury to Nasri and the Cheick Tiote ‘goal’ were the two incidents that made the headlines but there was more to the Ivory Coast midfielder’s display than that one decision.

When we asked fans for their Newcastle man of the match, Tiote won by a landslide, getting almost 60% of the votes with Williamson, Anita and Cabaye all getting honourable mentions as well (see below).

59% Tiote
12% Williamson
11% Anita
9% Cabaye
2% Sissoko
2% Steven Taylor
1% Krul
1% Mapou
1% Santon
1% Gouffran

Tiote put in another tireless all action display that has typified this season when he has been back at his very competitive best.

Matches such as the wins against Manchester United, Chelsea and Spurs have seen him a real driving force in the engine room, it was more of the same against City.

Arguably, Tiote and Cabaye are a match for anybody as a partnership in the midfield department of the Premier League, with last season’s injury interrupted disappointing season well behind them.

In my opinion they are easily Newcastle’s best signings, pound for pound, of recent times and it’s absolutely essential that their partnership is kept intact if Newcastle do indeed have any short to medium term ambitions.
