Stoke’s Manager Dismisses Newcastle United As a Top Team

Newcastle United have come a long way since being relegated. Not many would disagree that even though our club has won nowt for years it always was, and still is, a big club.

How many other promoted clubs have, or will be, knocking on the Champions League door within two years of being promoted?

Even so, it seems that no matter what Newcastle United have achieved this season, how far they have come since being relegated, and no matter how many headlines they make for good or bad reasons, then some people are still determined to not give us any recognition.

As painful as Sunday morning’s Match of the Day was to watch for Toon fans, it was after the Stoke v Arsenal match which ended in a 1-1 draw that this was highlighted.

Stoke’s ever so charismatic and sporting manager, Mr.Tony Pulis came out with this cracker, “…that’s all of the top teams that have come here this season and for the first time in four years in the premiership, no one’s beaten us…”.

None of the tops teams Tony, are you sure about that? What about the team currently in 4th place then?

When we played at the Brittania on 31st October we went into the game in 4th place and came out in 3rd.

You might not be able to see it, or be willing to acknowledge it Mr Pulis, but NUFC is undoubtedly a, “Top”, team.

Well, for this season at least.

He wasnt being dismissive mate, he made the point on local radio as Stoke being unbeaten to the percieved top clubs (established), he has also said on many occasions this season on how well Newcastle had done. Well done on a top season

Have to agree  This article just makes us seem pathetically paranoid. Much as I dislike the Pulis I see on telly we all know he wasn’t having a dig at us. Grow up and get angry about things that matter not throwaway comments made just after the heat of battle.

    Pulis… what can I say… I hate him… and Stoke….

    • 2Tone

Greg….= tit…..7 people liked this????? What can you say?………Peferably nothing.

Wasn’t he singing Newcastle’s and Pards praises last week. In the press this week he talked about the ‘big six’ by whom he means. The Manc clubs, then the usual suspects, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal. I don’t think it was meant as a slight in any way. I think you’re being a little over sensitive.

Tony Pulis?  More like Tiny Penis.

  • Flanders71

He praised us the other week for breaking into the top 4 .think he is just getting confused by it all. It’s not like we are up there every season.

  • Commulus

We’ll know we are a top team when Liverpool and Manchester United bring out videos in their club shops when they beat us!

  • RicFuller

    How sensitive must you be

  • Guest

    Neil “Dick”….says it all really

  • Billythefish

He’s right! We(Newcastle) have won nowt for over 40 years, so what right do we have to believe we are a top team.
We are however a top club for size, fans, turnover etc..

We are under no illusions what and where we are, in Europe and happy!………….Just like Stoke last year!

  • Robert760

We are not a top team Wigan proved that

    • GFH

By that logic the other teams they have beaten recently are not top teams ( Man U , Arsenal , Chelsea )

  • Andre Fox

Newcastle are a great team this year, no denying that.  AND good luck to em aint often a team reaches these heights in a season.  Some great performances and goals.  As for top six I think Tone’s reference is to those established top six and not meant as offensive.  He wishes we were up there, but we are far away.  But for now well done NUFC and hope it lasts for you.

  • SCFC_79

I don’t want to piss on your chips mate, but i think you’re being a bit OTT.
Earlier this month TP said of NUFC ”It would be lovely for the Premier League to have someone new and fresh getting in there…It is great for us as a football nation if you get a team outside what is supposed to be the top six group getting into it and working hard to try to stay there…You have got to give Alan and the players he has brought in a lot of credit — and their scouting set-up must take a lot of credit as well”.

  • Johnwilkes01

man utd  chelsea arsenal  man city spurs are the top teams newcastle have been brill this year played good football if they do it year after year we can had them to my list and liverpool are a good cup team

  • Swancott5

Think you’ve taken this out of context, he actually said take Newcastle out of this years top six, the traditional top six, he holds Newcastle in the highest regard after an amazing season, your just trying to stir things up without all the facts, eejit!!!

  • Smignal

Congratulations on totally excluding a key quote. All TP said is that you were not in the traditional media top 6. You are the best team we’ve played this season, stop being paranoid.

  • Jamo

    Talk about being over-sensitive!

It must be hard work walking through life with a whole bag of King Edwards on your shoulder.

I think you’ll find Tony referred to the “traditional” top six sides and never once dismissed Newcastle.

I can understand you being gutted about the Wigan game but I think you’re directing your disappointment in the wrong direction here.

  • Phil H

Smignal is right, Pulis stated that none of the top 6 from the 2010/11 season had come to the Britannia Stadium and won. Instead we collected 10 points from a total of 18 points.

  • Lukestoke1

your just having s good season that’s all

    Lads, lads, I don’t think it’s worth

forensically taking apart what other managers say; there are plenty of pillocks who deserve to be slaughtered (mostly in the press) but not Pulis, at least not this time.  All I can say is -Welcome to all the Stoke fans, I hope you are enjoying the delights of the Mag website.  We might not have the best team but in the Mag, True-Faith and NUFC.com we have the best fanzines!

  • Al

Sorry Neil, but its a sad day for all of us when we’re even remotely bothered about anything Tony Feckin Pulis has to say. Just keep the top on your pen and let it go?
