Newcastle Unearth Next Wayne Rooney?

The trip to Cardiff raised more questions than answers but the one very big positive was the late substitute appearance of Newcastle United’s Adam Campbell.

The striker made his debut for United’s under-18s side while still just 15 and is a product of the famous Wallsend Boys’ Club.

Born in North Shields and still only 17, he’s a boyhood Newcastle fan whose favourite United player is Cheick Tiote and going further afield is a big fan of Lionel Messi – not a bad combination!

Alan Pardew after the Cardiff match;

“Well, we’ve got high hopes for Adam and obviously he came and deserved that in the summer after being Player of the Tournament in the two little tournaments.

He’s going to be a great player for us. He was the bright news today and if you want to say what was the positive that was Adam Campbell today”.

Having watched Adam as he progressed through the ranks I think he is going to be a cracking player with more than a hit of Wayne Rooney, only slightly more ginger!

His cameo at Cardiff suggests he isn’t going to be fazed when he gets the opportunity to step up and if you can bear to watch these Cardiff video highlights (or just jump to 1.30) you’ll see Campbell slip a lovely Rooneyesque ball through that should have brought a goal.
