Newcastle Travel To 3 New Euro Destinations
While we didn’t get the chance of a return to Inter Milan or Bilbao, Newcastle have been handed three trips that should provide a decent but surmountable test, with accessible places to visit.
Out of Pot 1 we were handed a trip to Bordeaux who are finished fifth in the French top division last season. While Pot 2 saw United get Club Brugge of Belgium, runners-up last time around.
Finally, out of Pot 4 (Newcastle were Pot 3) we avoided the likes of a trip to Azerbaijan and instead were given a canny trip to Portugal (Madeira) to play CS Maritimo, a club with a decent European pedigree having defeated the likes of Leeds United and Glasgow Rangers in the past, though it could be some time before they meet those two again..
All in all a decent draw all around and three new clubs for the seasoned travellers to cross off their European list.
