West Brom fans comments on two Newcastle United loan players

West Brom fans watched on as their team won 1-0 at Stoke on Saturday.

It leaves them three points clear of those clubs outside the play-off places and five points off the automatic promotion spots, though with a game in hand.

For the first time both Dwight Gayle and Jacob Murphy started together.

Interested to see what West Brom fans have said about the Newcastle loan pair.

Gayle got the winner to make it 16 goals this season with a rate of one every 104 Championship minutes, the Baggies supporters making it clear they would like him to stay on beyond this season.

More mixed reviews on Jacob Murphy but this was his first start after a sub appearance and most West Brom fans are happy to wait and see what he can do after a run in the team.

Interesting how many of them think that Murphy playing right wing is totally out of position, thinking he definitely suits playing on the left wing and cutting in, as was his main role for Norwich City before moving to Newcastle, where he has rarely featured on the left side.

West Brom fans comment via their to West Brom Index message board:

‘Gayle is an instinctive finisher, in a way that J-Rod isn’t, he seems to stay very calm in the moment which is one of the key qualities for any top striker.’

‘I think Rondon and Gayle would be a very good partnership.’

‘Baffles me why he doesn’t put Jay outwide instead of Gayle.

Gayle is feeding off scraps pretty much and still scoring.’

‘Murphy has certainly got a turn of speed and able to get around his full back.

It’s just that some of his passing and shooting accuracy looked sloppy and in that regard, he didn’t look any better than McLean.’

‘Of the new signings I thought Murphy did ok but that’s not his side (right wing).’

‘New boys did ok for me. Murphy did some decent things in the first half but was clearly struggling with injury for most of the second.’

‘Rodriguez has been perfect for Gayle . You know both love playing with each other. Would be a huge mistake to drop him.’

‘From what I have seen of Murphy so far he makes HRK look like a world beater.’

‘Barry standout for us with Livermore and Murphy poor.’

‘Murphy will get better and grow in confidence to take people on.’

‘We need to remember Murphy is being played out of position.’

‘I’d still like to see Rondon play for us and sign Gayle if we go up.

For me Rondon holds the ball up better than jay rod and Gayle is a better finisher than jay and if we do go back up different options are needed.’

‘In my opinion Rondon is suited to Pulis football. If we have to swop him back for Gayle we will be miles worse off.’

‘I wasn’t impressed with Murphy but then again it’s his first game , he hasn’t played much this season so you’ve got to give him time.’

‘Gayle got on the end of a great bit of work from Hegazi as developed on the training pitch, and then we saw the game out by going a bit more safety first in the middle.’

‘Murphy and Johansen were well below par but I’ll put it down to lack of game time.’

‘The attacking trio just didnt click today but when you have Gayle you have a chance.’

‘Murphy put some very dangerous crosses early and some speculative efforts in first 20 mins then disappeared and for me offered less than what HRK normally does…’

‘Murphy struggled, though he’s playing on the wrong wing.’

‘Early to judge Murphy and I don’t want to compare him to Barnes but …He looked as though he was coasting a bit too much.

Definitely more lightweight than Barnes who amongst many other things could hold off defenders for a second or two and get a pass away or spin away from them. Hopefully there’s more to come from Murphy.’

‘Murphy is the most exciting of the signings we have made for me

Brings pace, technical ability, assists and a few goals. Gayle, Rodriguez and Murphy at this level is frightening.’
