It was Newcastle 3 Cardiff 0 but even better my two lads discovered a new hero
My 9 and 11 year old boys know Sean Longstaff as the lad who presents them with their end of season trophies at the North Shields Juniors end of season presentation.
Until today that is.
This afternoon at St James Park my lads followed Sean’s every movement, pass, touch and run in pure awe.
On the Metro home, the conversation revolved around Sean.
Whether they can buy him for their FIFA19 team and whether they can have his name on the back of their shirts.
As Ashley tries to sap every last drop of enthusiasm out of Newcastle fans, my lads have a new reason to be cheerful.
Let’s not get carried away,
I’m not expecting the young lad to take us to a Champions League spot…but to see my lads as enthusiastic as I was over Gazza and Beardsley, restores my faith in football.
Today’s game was a gritty, hard fought battle.
I’m delighted with the result but for me, Sean Longstaff was the icing on the cake.
Howay the lads.
