Burnley 1  Newcastle 2 – Monday 26 November 8.30pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle.

Newcastle getting their third win in a row thanks to two first half goals from Federico Fernandez (claimed to be an own goal from Mee!) and Ciaran Clark.

Rafa’s team move four points clear of the relegation zone.

Jamie Smith:

“Christ that was done the hard way!

“Should have been out of sight first half but sleepy moment from Clark gave Burnley belief and it was a mouse’s heart rate from then on.

“Feels very good to have broken an annoying inability to beat Burnley, win on a Monday night and get the first away win on the board.

“Things looking much better after those three straight wins and real hope to push further on against the Hammers!

“Rafa doing it again, even with the fourth lowest wage bill in the league.”

Nat Seaton:

“Great feeling to come here and win after last year. Smiling all the way home.

“Good solid away performance against a team that did not have too much to offer.

“Three wins on the bounce, let’s make it four on Saturday!!”

Ben Cooper:

“Before the game I thought we would have to play much better than that to win but now that I have seen Burnley play, I know we won’t finish bottom of the league.

“Three very valuable points.

“Hats off to the half of the team who played well, fortunately the others didn’t have to.

“Even then we were much better than Burnley. Things really are looking up.”

David Punton:

“All of a sudden things are looking up after this vital victory on the road.

“Early in the second half, with scores at 1-2, Matt Ritchie misses from two yards to make it 1-3.

“We all feared the worst. A typical Toon moment, giving the opponents a way back into it.

“But we’ve gone on from there and seen it out after two defenders did the damage.

“New cult hero Fed Fernandez with that deflected effort before stand-in left back Ciaran Clark cashed in on some slack marking from a very good cross.

“We go into the next game with a bit less pressure and with a great chance to kick on.

“Full credit to Benítez, he’s turned the ship around despite the club’s hapless ownership.”

Toon Bano:

“When Ritchie missed that, I was convinced we were gonna be done in the last minute.

“When Joselu hit the post, I was certain we were gonna be done in the last minute.

“But no! Three in a row!!!

“We love Monday nights…”
