We asked Newcastle fans if would rather win FA Cup or Mike Ashley sold NUFC this season? Overwhelming result.

The question we asked Newcastle fans on Sunday was – Would you rather Newcastle United won the FA Cup or Mike Ashley sold NUFC?

The reality of course is that Mike Ashley staying at the club pretty much ensures there is no chance of even having a proper try at attempting to win anything, as he starves the manager/squad of proper investment.

So in truth, the question is really asking Newcastle fans, simply how desperate you are to see the back of Mike Ashley?

Considering only a tiny proportion of the NUFC fanbase have seen the club win anything (50 seasons ago when the Fairs Cup was won, 63 seasons since the last FA Cup/domestic trophy), giving up hypothetically winning the FA Cup is a big deal.

This is how I put the arguments for and against yesterday:

‘Like myself, many of you will have given up any hope of either thing happening.

However, just for a second, suspend that reality.

This season’s FA Cup final takes place on 18 May 2019, before all football fans have an enforced rest in advance of looking forward to/worrying about next season.

I was asked this question in the pub last night, would I rather Newcastle United won the FA Cup on 18 May 2019 OR Mike Ashley had sold NUFC by that point.

I didn’t take any time in answering for myself but interested to see what the consensus would be amongst Newcastle fans.

At last see Newcastle win a trophy after a 50 year wait, or get rid of Mike Ashley?

Which of these is most important to you in these next seven months?’

Thanks to the thousands of Newcastle fans who took the time to vote and the final result is in:

88% Mike Ashley sells NUFC

12% NUFC win the FA Cup

A pretty spectacular result, those supporters voting leaving little doubt as to how desperately this football club needs to rid itself of Mike Ashley.
